Atlantic Area Trans-national Programme
The priorities are to Promote Entrepreneurial and Transnational Innovation Networks, Protect, Secure and Enhance the Marine and Coastal Environment Sustainability, Improve Accessibility and Internal Links and Promote Transnational Synergies in Sustainable Urban and Regional Development as detailed in the Operational programme agreed by the European Commission on 20 September 2007. The maximum intervention rate is 65% of eligible costs with total ERDF budget of €104 million.
The Managing Authority for the programme is the CCDR Norte, based in Porto, Portugal. WEFO leads the co-ordinating role within the UK, with overall responsibility with the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) in London.

Important notice of funding opportunities
4th Call opening
A 4th call for projects is to be opened. There will be two stages for this call, the first an Expressions of Interest (EOI) which opens on the 29th January 2013 and will close on the 15th March 2013, and secondly, a full application stage to follow on completion of the 1st stage EOI process. All 4 priorities will be open and it is expected that this will be the final call to use up all remaining programme funds. Please go to the Atlantic Area website for further details on this call.

An extension call is now open to partners already involved in approved projects (either on-going or completed). See the related link on the right for more information.
Progress of programme
1st Call - A total of 68 applications were received under the 1st call by the Joint Technical Secretariat in Porto, of which 43 involve UK partners. Following the decision of the PMC, 24 projects in total were approved. 18 projects had UK partners, with 7 of these involving Welsh partners.
2nd Call - A total of 78 applications were received by the Joint Technical Secretariat in Porto, of which 51 involve UK partners. Following the decision of the PMC, 24 projects in total were approved. 19 projects had UK partners, with 9 of these involving Welsh partners.
3rd Call – A total of 30 applications were received by the Joint Technical Secretariat, 18 of these involved UK partners. Following the decision of the PMC, 10 projects were approved of which 9 had UK involvement, with one having a Welsh partner.
Programme Monitoring Committee
The Committee met in Belfast, Northern Ireland (4-5 November 2008), Santiago de Compostela, Spain (23-24 November 2009) and Dublin, Ireland (27-28 October 2011) to select projects under the 1st, 2nd and 3rd calls for applications.
