European Structural Funds Programmes 2000–2006 in Wales

For the programming period 2000-2006, Wales was awarded over £1.5 billion of European funding, which together with match funding from a variety of sources has generated over £3.8 billion of total project investment in Wales.

The Lifetime of the Programmes

Over their lifetime, these programmes are expected to have created 46,000 net additional jobs, supported over 200,000 businesses, and helped some 96,000 unemployed or economically inactive people into work or training.

All projects needed to address the three cross-cutting themes of equal opportunities, environmental sustainability and information and communication technology for the achievement of a well-balanced sustainable and innovative economy.

The Objective 1, 2 and 3 programmes in Wales closed on 30 June 2009.

While the smaller Equal, Interreg IIIA, Leader+, and Urban II community initiatives closed, on 31 December 2008.
