Closure of European Structural Fund and Community Initiative Programmes 1994 to 1999
The Structural Fund programmes and Community Initiatives that operated during the 1994 to 1999 programme period have been successfully closed.
Therefore, the Welsh European Funding Office is pleased to inform project sponsors that the document retention periods associated with the following programmes have lapsed and all documentation relating to projects and project expenditure may be destroyed:

- RESIDER II
- RETEX II

- URBAN
Programmes and Community Initiatives supported by the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF)
- Rural Wales European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund
- LEADER II
Programmes and Community Initiatives supported by the European Social Fund
- Objective 3
- Objective 4
- INTERREG Wales
- LEADER Wales
- URBAN Swansea
- RECHAR Wales
- RESIDER Wales
- SME Wales
- KONVER UK
- RETEX UK
- ADAPT
- Employment
Project Sponsors must continue to retain documentation relating to:
- Industrial South Wales 1997-99 (ISW) – supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund. The retention date for this programme is anticipated to lapse 22 August 2012,
- Rural Wales European Social Fund, and
- PESCA Community Initiative - operated under the Financial Instrument For Fisheries Guidance (FIFG). WEFO is currently awaiting confirmation of the retention date for this programme
WEFO will advise project sponsors when it is safe to destroy records for these.
Please note: the above advice specifically relates to the 1994 to 1999 Structural Fund Programmes and Community Initiatives.
Project sponsors must maintain all documentation relating to projects and project expenditure in respect of the 2000 to 2006 Structural Fund programmes. WEFO will advise when it is safe to destroy these records.
