STEM Cymru (raising skills and training)
Led by Engineering Education Scheme in Wales (EESW) the project is backed with £1.6m from the European Social Fund.
Top technology students from Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School in Beddau took part in global challenge to design, manufacture and race model F1 cars.
The girls, known as Team Zenith, took part in the F1 Schools Challenge in Singapore, competing against 26 teams from 18 different countries. While they narrowly missed out on the top prize, the experience has given them the confidence to pursue technology related careers.
Their teacher, Jamie Williams, said:
The girls have worked really hard and have put a great deal of time and effort into this challenge.
The STEM Cymru project will provide more youngsters with such opportunities enabling them to develop their skills in science and technology, paving the way for successful and rewarding careers.
